There Is Ability in Her Disability: Justina’s Journey

Before joining the Empower Her Ability Project, Justina had recently transitioned from poultry farming to selling grains and foodstuff after facing challenges in her previous business. Determined to keep moving forward, she was learning how to structure and grow her new venture.

As a woman with low vision, Justina also faced transportation barriers, limited access to capital, and stigma from some people around her. Despite these challenges, she remained committed to building a sustainable business.

Through the Empower Her Ability Project, Justina received entrepreneurship training and six months of mentorship tailored to her specific business needs. She developed practical skills in business management, record keeping, and customer engagement, giving her greater confidence to manage and grow her enterprise.

Today, Justina tracks her income and expenses more effectively, engages with customers with greater confidence, and reports gradual growth in her business.

For Justina, the Empower Her Ability Project reinforced a powerful truth: disability does not define a person’s capacity to succeed.

Her words say it best:

“There is ability in my disability. The DIS in disability means low, not absence of ability.”

Justina’s journey is a reminder that with the right opportunities, support, and determination, women with disabilities can adapt, build, and grow—even when the path to entrepreneurship is not easy.
