Before joining Empower Her Ability, Habiba Yusuf’s ready-to-wear clothing business was struggling with low customer patronage and limited growth. She faced equipment challenges, particularly not having adequate sewing machinery, which affected her ability to scale production.
As a Deaf entrepreneur, Habiba was determined to grow her business but needed stronger systems and support.
Through the project, she received entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and financial support through a business challenge. She learned practical skills such as record keeping, financial management, and separating personal finances from business finances. Her mentor also provided encouragement and accountability support.
Today, Habiba reports increased confidence in marketing her business, improved financial discipline, and stronger business organization. She now keeps financial records, maintains separate bank accounts for business transactions, and has expanded her product inventory by purchasing more materials.
Her growing confidence has also enabled her to participate in business showcases and promote her products more actively.
Habiba’s remaining challenges include the need for a physical shop, additional materials, and equipment to accommodate her growing business.
Still, her story shows how accessible training and mentorship can strengthen both business performance and entrepreneurial confidence.
